Highs & Lows
Ever since the girls were little, when we’d sit down to dinner together, we’d give a recap of our day. Not like the boring, “how was your day dear?” or “what did you do today?”. Instead, we went around the table (someone different started each night) and gave the high points of the day AND the low points of the day. I always found this to be an easy way to spark conversation, without having to drag the information out of my kiddos and Ty and I could share our day with them so they knew what walking around in our shoes that day may have been like. No matter how young or old you are, everyone experiences joys and challenges every day! This week has been full of highs and lows here on Dauntless, so I thought I’d share with you all!
This time we are going to start with the youngest and work our way up to the oldest…
Mads - Highs and Lows for the week…Highs - I HAVE A BED…IN MY OWN CABIN! This is the most exciting thing…since her return home was a little unexpected, we didn’t have a place for Mads. Ty has been fervently working on getting the battery and power projects complete so that we can put a proper room together for Mads. She’s been patiently sleeping on the couch in the saloon without complaining or pestering her dad as to when she’ll have a real bed! Definitely a great high!! She has a few more highs, but they also are lows for her too…The bottom paint is done being sanded and the stickers and their adhesive have been removed too. These are highs for her because she was able to contribute some significant work towards the refit effort and successfully completed the tasks…BUT they are also lows, because, well, who really wants to sand bottom paint even with top notch sanders and vacuums?
Syd - Highs and Lows for the week…Highs - Mads has her own bed and she’s not sleeping in our living space any more and she’s not “sharing” my cabin space to store her pillows and stuff! We have our own spaces again! Also, the bottom paint sanding is DONE! Lows - this is a big one, Alex found out yesterday that Spirit Airlines cancelled his flight for his trip out for her birthday at the end of April/first of May. He did get a full refund and will come out when it is safe for him to travel and airlines have flights.
Ty - Highs and Lows for the week…He started with the lows…He lifted and twisted wrong early this week and threw out his back, broke a tooth in half on his birthday and can’t get into the dentist yet, found out that the boatyard mis-blocked our boat and as a result, we have de-lamination on the keel! But the highs are pretty awesome - the bottom paint is sanded and ready for the next step, the Tesla batteries and the 48v DC to 12v DC converters are in and both are working exactly as intended, he wired up a temporary breaker panel for us to use until the COVID-19 curve is flattened and business can resume more normally for us to get a custom marine panel built and shipped to us, which means that our all our power is wired as intended on proper breakers including the Miele cooktop and convection steam oven! WOW what a win!
Kim - Highs and Lows for the week - I share the highs and lows that everyone else has. For me, I had a little more gloomy outlook on the week. I really felt like things were crumbling around me, from the issues with the keel, to Ty’s back and tooth issues. I have this overwhelming concern that we’re taking two steps forward in progress all to be hit like in dodge ball forcing us to take 4 steps back! As I went through the process of asking everyone else what their highs and lows for the week are, it made me realize that I am not alone…we are all sharing the same ups and downs together. Sometimes, they hit one person a little harder than they do the others, which is how I felt this week. I am so grateful for my family…even through a week of curve balls, we still came out with the win!
Oh, and don’t forget, we are a solar generating, Tesla battery powered boat! Stay tuned for more on the crazy amount of power that we have! There will be a 4 part series on YouTube!
Tune in to our YouTube video this coming Tuesday to hear us talk about our highs and lows…
Thanks,
Kim
