What's with The Logo?

When you have a vision about something, but are not an artistic person, it becomes very difficult to express what the heck it is that you want. The logos I’ve “created” for previous business endeavors never seemed to be so hard to articulate as getting my words out for this one. The first thing I did was scour the internet for images using the keywords that I thought described my vision. As my searches turned up with the same boring images, I decided to change my keywords. Dauntless, being the name of our boat, and how we planned on taking on this next chapter in our lives, was an obvious keyword for me. Unfortunately, thanks to movies and cartoons, that got me no where. So, I thought about the actual adventure - sailing, dreaming of travel, and the all important, making memories with my family. After all, that last one, making memories with my family, is what made selling the pizza truck so hard. We’d made so many memories that we forever talk about and laugh. The memories are what warm our hearts, carry us through dark and challenging times. Really, it’s what this adventure is all about, memories.

And just like that, typing those things in my search, the image was on my screen! The part that really kicked it into full on make a mom cry, the words, “Die with Memories, Not Dreams.” It’s exactly how I felt… I don’t want to just dream about the adventure or the places, I want to make memories on the adventure being at those places. I read it out loud, I loved it. I never thought it would be better until Madi walked by me, gave me a wink and a smile, and said, “Live Dauntless.” That was it! “Die with Memories, Not Dreams…Live Dauntless.”

Now, the image was a tattoo, and it was more of a line drawing, but the feel was there. It needed a little nudge to make it a little more classy, elegant, refined… but the solid framework was there. I knew I wanted to put a little color onto the map because it would bring a little more visual interest to the piece. So how did I pick pinks and teals? Obviously, those are Syd & Madi’s favorite colors. It took a few weeks and a little bit of help from Ty and Syd for me to get my words across correctly, but I won!

My vision came to life and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! If I leave nothing else behind in this world, I hope that my family and I can inspire others to “Die with Memories, Not Dreams…Live Dauntless.”

Keep coming back on Wednesday’s and Sunday’s for more updates and exciting news!

Thanks,

Kim and Syd
