On the hunt... Still

Fix for Blog 2-11-20.jpg

Before I get back into the hunt for the boat, I just want to tell you a little more about the projects we have going on. Yesterday, Dad rebuilt the cabinet frame and door under the sink in the galley so that we can open the door all the way now. The handle on our new oven protrudes into the space farther than the original fixture. Modern problems call for modern solutions. He also added a drawer under the oven, that way we have more storage for our cookware (we have a lot of cookware). Our new microwave came in yesterday as well. Keep your eye out on Facebook or Instagram for installation of that bad boy. I have a feeling that getting the galley done will feel like the biggest victory on the planet at this point. I know that all three of us are excited to see the finished product, and I hope you all are, too!

Now, where did we leave off? Right, the heartbreaking realization that we couldn’t afford the boat we fell in love with. After browsing the boats in Ft. Laudderdale, Mom and Dad came back home and continued the search. They found a couple of boats that they might be interested in, and talked about putting in an offer on a boat that they had seen believing that it would be one of their only options. Our broker came to us with a boat in in the northeast, US. It was extensively damaged and didn’t have a mast or rigging. Mom and Dad weren't sure if this was going to be the type of project that they waned to take on, but they were trying to be optimistic. They put in an offer on this boat, and after some back and forth-as it tends to happen in boat deals-it fell through. Just when they (and honestly all four of us) were feeling the most down and yet-again defeated over the process and idea of owing/living on a boat, there was a glimmer of hope when our broker came to us with a lead on a boat that was extremely vague. After putting out some feelers in the broker community, he came across a charter boat in the British Virgin Islands. After bringing us more information about our perspective home, a decision was made to at least go look at it. It was a 2016 Lagoon 450F, docked in Tortola, BVI that had come out of charter. It almost seemed too good to be true. She appeared to be in good condition (based on the pictures), the owner was willing to negotiate on price, and we were starting to get excited. Previously named, Elvira, was looking to be a very good contestant in the hunt for our new home.

Up next: visiting Tortola and seeing the boat for the first time. Then a survey, haul out, and sea trial. Come back on Sunday for more of the story! See you then!

Thanks,

Syd
