Quick update... and backstory?

We give Stella ice as treats…. she LOVES these frozen babies!

Happy Sunday, folks! I hope everyone has a good week. We had a very productive week ourselves. We almost have a new galley (kitchen) and so much clutter has been removed from the cockpit and salon. We have an operating Scotsman ice maker, a carbon filtered water dispenser, and our Corian countertops have been ordered! Our ice maker is also carbon filtered and it produces the most beautiful, crystal clear ice cubes that I have ever seen. It’s crazy how replacing a couple fixtures and dropping a few appliances in can really transform a place. I really shouldn’t be surprised. I grew up around transformations like this with my parents doing the whole construction thing. It’s just different when its your own space.

Now, the juicy stuff:

Our backstory, our past, our reasoning for starting this crazy and scary adventure. Wow, that was dramatic. In all seriousness, I bet you all are wondering why we decided to uproot our entire lives, buy a boat that we don’t know how to sail, move all of our belongings across the country and start our lives over almost completely. I’ll tell you: for something new. That’s basically why. I bet you’re sort of frustrated and annoyed by that answer. Honestly, I don't blame you. It’s true though. If you read the Our Story page (if you haven’t by now I would seriously check it out) then you would know that back in Colorado, we built and ran a pretty amazing food truck as a family. We - meaning myself, my younger sister, and our parents - did that for the entire time that both my sister and I were in high school and then some. As Madi (my sister) and I got older, we expressed to our parents that we didn’t want to be working on the food truck for very much longer. We had done it, we worked hard and we were ready to start something that was our own in its entirety. I found a job that I was really excited about (if you’re wondering why I’m writing this instead of being at that job, lets just say a 9-5 at a desk really isn’t my style) and Madi, after talking about it for a couple years, officially decided and committed to being a member of our armed forces. Pretty admirable if you ask me, and even though she’s my sister that can’t be biased… Anyway, my parents knew that they didn’t want to run the truck for very long after my sister and I were finished with it, so they had to start thinking about what they were going to do next. After months of research and browsing and YouTubing, they finally came to a consensus - Let’s buy a boat. After that, there were several more months of shopping. If you’ve never purchased a sail boat, or from what I understand any boat really, it’s a process. It’s exhausting and time consuming and frustrating and exhilarating all at the same time. Mom and Dad flew down here to Florida to meet with a broker and look at some boats. Nothing much came from that except for coming to a more firm conclusion on what they were thinking of buying. Oh, and some new friends. My mom calls them her boat buddies. Hi, Alan and DD! If you’re reading this, I hope to meet you soon! My parents both thought that they wanted to purchase a Leopard sailing catamaran in the 39’-43’ range going into all of this… then their broker had them step onto a brand new Lagoon 450F owners version, and it was all over. My mom fell in absolute love, it had everything. All of the bells and whistles that you could get from the factory. It was exactly what they wanted and what they were looking for. When they asked the price, my mom fell to pieces. It was comically outside of their budget. There was no way that they were going to be able to afford it, so the search continued…

Check back on Wednesday for more of the story! See you then!

Thanks,

Syd (;
